Honey, Cinnamon, Turmeric and Candle Ritual Guide in Igbo Spirituality
Theme: This ritual is centered on attracting favor, prosperity, abundance, open doors, sweetness, peace, spiritual renewal, positive relationships, divine opportunities, wisdom, protection, and the successful manifestation of righteous intentions. It also symbolizes the release of bitterness, delays, stagnation, negativity, and every obstacle that hinders personal growth and progress.
This ritual is commonly practiced during New Moon and Full Moon observances, although many people also perform it during other personal spiritual exercises. While the timing may differ, the intention remains the same, to seek renewal, spiritual alignment, attract positive opportunities, express gratitude, and consciously release what no longer serves one’s journey.

- Honey
- Cinnamon Powder

- Essential Oil (Favor or Attraction Oil)

Preparing Yourself
Before beginning the ritual, prepare both yourself and your environment. Choose a quiet place where you will not be disturbed and approach the ritual with a calm and focused mind. Many traditions encourage participants to avoid unnecessary arguments, negativity, distractions, or anything that unsettles the mind during this period. The purpose is to create an atmosphere that encourages reflection, clarity, and intentional prayer.
Preparing the Sacred Mixture
Place the white flat plate before you. Pour a small quantity of honey onto the plate, then add the cinnamon powder and turmeric powder. Add a few drops of your preferred essential oil.
Using the middle finger of your dominant hand, gently stir the mixture in a clockwise direction while concentrating on your intentions.
As you prepare the mixture, you may declare:
“May sweetness, favour, prosperity, fruitfulness, good health, abundance, success, and every good thing locate me. May bitterness, delay, lack, disappointment, and every obstacle standing in my path depart from my life. May my journey be filled with peace, wisdom, protection, progress, and open doors.”
Preparing the Candles
Take each candle one after another and gently apply the prepared mixture over the entire body of the candle while making declarations according to its traditional symbolism.
Green Candle
Represents growth, prosperity, fruitfulness, financial increase, productivity, stability, and the successful manifestation of your efforts.
Blue Candle
Represents peace, wisdom, emotional balance, understanding, spiritual guidance, and clarity in decision-making.
Red Candle
Represents courage, vitality, confidence, determination, righteous passion, protection, and the strength to overcome obstacles.
White Candle
Represents purity, spiritual cleansing, divine light, protection, favour, open doors, and the removal of negativity.
Lighting the Candles
After preparing all four candles, gather them together in your hands and make your final declaration.
“As these lights become one, may every blessing prepared for me come together in unity. May my path be illuminated, my helpers locate me, my efforts bear fruit, and may peace, wisdom, favour, abundance, protection, and lasting progress accompany every step I take.”
Gently wave the candles clockwise above your head before placing them securely on the floor. Light the candles and allow them to burn safely until they extinguish naturally.
Completing the Ritual
The following morning, gather the remaining candle wax from the floor and pour to the plate and respectfully return it to the earth. This symbolizes the completion of the ritual and the return of the elements to nature with gratitude and respect.
Candle Safety
Always perform candle rituals responsibly.
- Place candles on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
- Keep them away from flammable materials.
- Keep children and pets away from burning candles.
- Never leave burning candles unattended.
- If you need to leave the area, extinguish the candles safely before doing so.
